"Keen are the blades of shadow."[1][FRPG:67]

The Umbriri are Netherese swordmages that have mastered the arts of shadow to weave it into a unique swordmage style. Often, shades within Netheril employ this style as they are able to draw upon their ties to the Shadowfell. It is not uncommon to have umbriri found dead somewhere as they tried to share their secret techniques with others, e.g. wandering swordmages, or lost in combat to other umbriri they challenged.[1][FRPG:67]

To become an umbriri, one would need to first find them, which is a journey of itself. Afterwards, a master, typically a Shadovar, will choose those who show promise and loyalty to warrant such teachings. Typically, these umbriri serve as some of the greatest assassin in Netheril, and they may be hired to hunt adventurers that threaten the Shade Enclave or a ruler with enough to provide for the service. Perhaps, it may be easy to complete the task while within a party of adventurers themselves.[1][FRPG:67]

Umbriri Features[]

Shadowy Action (11th level): Whenever the umbriri spends an action point to take an extra action, they and all nearby allies gain concealment for a short duration.[1][FRPG:67]

Shadow Defense (11th level): The umbriri gains an amount of resist necrotic. Whenever the umbriri uses any swordmage aegis power, this resist value increases, and their melee basic attacks deal additional necrotic damage (both for a short duration).[1][FRPG:67]

Shadow Shroud (16th level): The umbriri gains combat advantage against an enemy if they also have concealment from that enemy.[1][FRPG:67]

Umbriri Powers[]

Assassin Shadow (11th-level Attack): An encounter-based action as part of a melee weapon attack. On a hit, the target some additional damage and creates a shadowy manifestation of the umbriri near the target for a short duration.[1][FRPG:67]

Concealing Umbra (12th-level Utility Power): An encounter-based action where the umbriri emits a close-ranged burst. An ally within the burst's range becomes invisible for a short duration or until they make an attack.[1][FRPG:67]

Shadowed Psyche (20th-level Attack): A daily action where the umbriri touches a target it has combat advantage on. On a hit, the target is dominated with restrictions by the umbriri for a short duration.[1][FRPG:67]
