Ernest Gary Gygax was an American writer and game designer popularly known as the father of roleplaying games. He co-wrote the rulebooks for first edition Dungeons & Dragons and Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
Although Gygax was not directly involved in the development of 4th edition, its initial three core rulebooks were dedicated to his memory.
